Karl and I went to the Toronto Autoshow on Tuesday (20th) after he scored a couple of discount tickets from his work. We both took the day off from work to beat the crowds, and sporting our digital cameras, we set out to spot the best of automotive 2007. I think we are both just "spectator fans", so we like looking at cool cars, but lack the capacity to understand automotive details and the lack of pocket change to actually afford to buy one (well, the ones that we were salivating over, anyway). Here are some of my Toronto Autoshow highlights:
Every year, Daimler Chrysler seems to always want to steal the show by being front and center. They always occupy the middle of the main atrium of the Toronto Convention Centre. They had some pretty interesting cars this year, including a 4 door Jeep Rubicon and the massive concept Jeep Gladiator (IMO, Gladiator > H3). Big 3's been out pushing their throwback to the muscle cars this year and I wasn't overly impressed with the new Mustang or Camero. They were nice, but the Dodge Challenger looked like a car that Steve McQueen could have been proud of.
Ford showed of the new Mustang and Corvette (meh, retro muscle cars) and the Ford GT and Shelby GR1 concept (mmmm). Personally, I would have liked the Corvette as an old Stingray, similar to the GR1 in profile.
Of course, no car show would be complete without a reminder of what you can't possibly afford. There were plenty of Austin Martins, Ferraris, a couple of Lamborghini Murcielagos and 3 Lotus Elises.
To pay homage to the god of excess, there was this crazy pimped up set of wheels with more crazy blinking led lights and LCD panels than Las Vegas and Tokyo times 42... all powered by a... is that a Mac Mini? Certainly a good show this year. Though for me, I'll still be taking the TTC and biking it where ever I go.
